The nation's question is always where do we go and how do we get there.
Our way of pursuing success has not brought prosperity and well-being to everyone, however, largely because of the cowboy problem, short-term self-interest, group think, and moral confusion. A better direction includes everyone and serves the good of the whole.
Politics alone won't achieve this because personalities, alliances, and events can derail constructive purposes. Thinking beyond politics depends on people's willingness to connect and work together, and to be rational, responsible, and good.
What happens next will depend on those who believe this and act on it.
John Jensen began this book when applying some leadership ideas to a parish group as a Catholic priest in 1966. If the principles could be extended more broadly, be believed, society could be changed radically. He has since distilled several decades of experience into an explanation of how people can make changes in their lives, neighborhood, city, or nation. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Alaska and an educational consultant. |

In a coffee shop, my friend Dave asked about title of the book I was editing.
"Finding Your Inner Lenin: Taking Responsibility for Global Change," I said. His eyes opened wide and he smiled.
"What does that mean to you?" I asked.
"It means 'revolutionary, visionary!' but in a different way," he answered.
"That's it," I exclaimed. "You're the person I'm writing this for. You get it!"
He thought a moment and summed up the book:"You take us on a psychological walking tour through the processes that will bring global change." |
